Instead of making December plans with a red flag who will drain your energy and scam you off your hard earned money, call your girlfriends or girl cousins and have a movie night with “Waiting To Exhale”
It’s been 30 years since its release. It’s not perfect in its storytelling but I’ve come to appreciate the representation and the lessons this movie champions:
= the indomitable spirit of Black women
= reclaiming one’s self worth
= the power of true female friendships
= the importance of women showing up for each other
=falling, owning up to our mistakes, learning from them and rising
= accountability in friendships
= the benefits of true independence in all its forms
= what it means to finally exhale.
There really is so much to unpack in this one movie. I fell in love with it as a child and have watched it a few times through the years but it hits differently as you grow older.
It stars Whitney Houston, Angela Bassett, Lela Rochon and Loretta Devine
It’s on NETFLIX. Make time to watch it
And cheers to all women
= taking their power back
= saying no to things that don’t serve them
= being unapologetically themselves
= healing and rebuilding their lives
= who value being a true friend and sister to other women
= and to true sisterhood!
